McRib in Canada: Is it Coming Back?

The McRib sandwich has been a cult favorite for many years, and its return to McDonald's restaurants in the United States has left Canadians wondering if they will ever get to enjoy the delicious BBQ-flavored pork sandwich. Unfortunately, the answer is no - the McRib will not be returning to Canada at this time. The main reason why the McRib has not been available in Canada for so long is due to our weaker trade restrictions and the dollar. The McRib was first introduced to the McDonald's menu in 1981, following trial marketing the previous year.

It returned in 1989 and remained on the menu in many countries where sandwiches were popular. The McRib arouses a certain passion in people, especially because it prevents diners in Canada from doing so. In other words, having hooked people to the McRib in the 90s, McDonald's can introduce the sandwich at random points and people will jump at it because they won't know when the reward will be offered again. In fact, studies based on the McRib have been conducted to be used as a model to detect small recessions in the US economy.

The McRib starts with seasoned boneless pork dipped in a spicy BBQ sauce, topped with shredded onions and dill pickles, all served on a homemade toasted bun. It was his inspiration to shape the McRib pie like a slab of ribs, despite the fact that a round burger would have been cheaper to make and serve on standard hamburger buns. So while Canadians may be disappointed that they won't be able to enjoy the McRib anytime soon, they can take solace in knowing that it is still available in other countries. And who knows - maybe one day it will make its way back to Canada!.
